Who is involved?
The movement to clean up the environment and to find new and innovative
ways to create a sustainable lifestyle for future generations includes
many participates from all walks of life. At its broadest, the movement
includes professionals and large corporations, politicians, religious
organizations, educational institutions, and committed individuals. With
global climate change concerns becoming a significant social issue, people
are more aware of how their daily choices affect the environment and are
taking steps to get involved in solving environmental problems.
Individuals
It wasn’t until recently that individuals began to seriously consider
the impact of global warming and wonder what they could do to help protect
the environment and repair some of the damage that has been done so far.
Individuals have since joined together and have started to make a conscious
effort to make small changes that can have a large impact including cleaning
the dryer lint filter every time, composting to reduce the amount of waste
sent to the landfill, using biodegradable plastic bags, and paying bills
on line to eliminate unnecessary paper piles.
Businesses
An increased public awareness of environmental issues in the last three
decades has prompted a drive for change by large scale institutions and
businesses, prompting many industries to consider more environmentally
sound ways of conducting business including using less paper, increasing
their recycling efforts, using biodegradable plastics, and creating carpooling
networks. These methods attempt to cut down on harm to the environment
by following the three R's of reduce, reuse, and recycle.
Government
The government has finally decided to seriously consider the environment
and has been taking steps to reconsider and readjust its policies, procedures,
and prioritization of environmental matters. The voices of the people
have sparked many changes in the recent past and will continue to play
an important role in directing the government in new pro-environment directions.
